When specialist input helps

Start with the problem, not the procedure.

Symptoms and treatment needs can overlap. A specialist consultation is the place to assess what is happening and discuss an appropriate plan.

Common reasons to seek a periodontal opinion

  1. 01
Bleeding or inflamed gumsPersistent inflammation can warrant periodontal assessment.
  2. 02
Gum recession or tooth mobilityChanges to gums and supporting structures may need specialist management.
  3. 03
Missing teeth or implant planningImplant suitability depends on clinical assessment of bone and soft tissue.
  4. 04
Unexplained mouth changesUlcers, infections or mucosal changes may fall within oral medicine.

Diagnosis comes before treatment.

The practice uses specialist examination and, when indicated, imaging or scanning to understand the tissues involved before treatment options are discussed.
